What's “World Performing Arts Festival 2020”?

「無形文化遺産」という言葉、知っていますか? 「民族芸能」といったら何をイメージしますか?



Japan Folk Performing Arts Association is organizing the World Performing Arts Festival 2020,” selected as one of the projects of the Tokyo Tokyo FESTIVAL Special 13 held by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and Arts Council Tokyo at the Tokyo Metropolitan Foundation for History and Culture. The event is to take place in Hibiya Park on April 18 (Saturday) and April 19 (Sunday), 2020.

Folk Performing arts have been passed down in various parts of the world, and have come about within the unique natural environments and ways of life of these various regions. They are cultural properties with unique and important characteristics. This festival will bring to Tokyo valuable folk performing arts and other intangible cultural heritage registered on UNESCOs Lists of Intangible Cultural Heritage. With performances from six countries on five continents, including some never before seen in Japan, as well as folk performing groups from Tokyo and three Tohoku prefectures, the Hibiya Open-Air Concert Hall and other venues will spring to life with the excitement of the event.

About “Japan Folk Performing Arts Association (JFPAA) “

Japan Folk Performing Arts Association (JFPAA/Zen-kyoo-gei) was established in 1973, for the purpose of reservation and promotion of folk performing arts of Japan. It is the only nation-wide organization consists of: 1) performing groups, 2) groups/person interested in folk performing arts.

斬新で独創的な企画や、より多くの人々が参加できる企画を幅広く募り、Tokyo Tokyo FESTIVALの中核を彩る事業として、東京都及び公益財団法人東京都歴史文化財団 アーツカウンシル東京が実施するものです。

国内外から応募のあった2,436件から選定した13の企画を、「Tokyo Tokyo FESTIVAL スペシャル13」と総称し、オリンピック・パラリンピックが開催される2020年にかけて、展開しています。

About Tokyo Tokyo FESTIVAL Special 13

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government and Arts Council Tokyo sought a wide range of creative and innovative ideas from the public for projects that would become the core of the cultural programs for the Tokyo Tokyo FESTIVAL. From a total of 2,436 project proposals submitted from within Japan and overseas, 13 were selected for implementation. The 13 projects are collectively named Tokyo Tokyo FESTIVAL Special 13 and are being implemented in sequence towards 2020, when the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020 will be held.
